Gift Baskets, A Smart Gift – Part 1
“It’s business, it isn’t personal!” I get tired of hearing that remark. Business is personal. Obviously true if you are in a service industry, but also true if you are in sales. Hmm…what percentage of businesses does that amount to? Probably close to 100%! In these tough times, in any times really, you need to take care of your clients in order to take care of business.
Giving a gift is a good will gesture, an acknowledgement. Acknowledgement is a word that goes back to the Old English word acknow, meaning to recognize, to know. By gifting you are telling your clients you know they are important, you recognize them as part of your success and that you appreciate it.
It doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive, but it should be thoughtful. After decades in the gift basket business we have come up with many a gift basket idea. Some of these ended up not being in a basket at all. An exquisite box of chocolates or a good bottle of wine paired with the right cheese might be all it takes to send the right message. The important thing is to send something that stands out from the average, something that says you put some thought into it. This is precisely why we specialize in artisan gourmet and gift items, things you won’t find in the big box stores.
Heres a tip to get your gifting off on the right foot:
Send a Gift of Good Taste and one that Tastes Good
Sure you could get one of those generic gift baskets that are made up months in advance, usually in a foreign country where the labor is cheaper. But so will every one else who is trying to woo your client and your gift will get lost in the shuffle. Instead send a gourmet gift basket or a wine gift basket that actually contains delicious foods. We’ve had comments like, “Yours was the only basket where we ate everything in it.” This is what we are going for. We want you to be remembered for sending the good gift basket. Your clients should come to think of you as thier partner. You give them first class service. Don’t send a second class gift.

Big Love – A Very Special Custom Gift Basket
We get to have a lot of fun here at Fancifull. Of course there are all the wine and gourmet products we taste (hey, have to make sure all the wine and gourmet gift baskets are properly stocked with great foods!) But we also get a kick out of all the custom gift baskets we get to design. This week’s winner as the most fun gift basket was the one we did for Greene and Associates for Big Love. It contained four dolls which were just downright eerie – but then there was that big bottle of Cristal. Take a look at the photo we snapped. How fun is that?

The Perfect Summer Flower
We are in the heart of summer, which means one thing when speaking of flowers: Sunflowers! The dainty flowers of spring are waning and those big hearty sunflowers are everywhere at the market downtown. With their big heads grinning at me from every bucket, they are hard to resist. And they will certainly bring a smile to anyone who receives them. They also do well in the heat and so make a great choice for summer arrangements. Promotional Gifts: DiSaronno Sparkle Sun and Sand
Fancifull has long been known for artful presentations, which you might say is one of our specialties. But DiSaronno really challenged us when they came to us for a corporate gift basket that would communicate a summer fun message and promote DiSaronno Amaretto with Moet Champagne as a fun summer drink (it does sound good, doesn’t it?). Sand and shells seemed like just the ticket, and we eliminated the basket in favor of a glass bowl, which allowed us to display our “beach scene” for maximum effect. We do a lot of corporate gifting, especially where the company has logo items and wants a display that has impact. We seem to do a lot of corporate gift baskets for auctions and giveaways – where an eye-catching display is paramount.
The Food Network has included small refrigerators in their gift baskets and studios often send fifty dvds to be displayed with the appropriate movie-watching candy. Wally always tells people to challenge us. I cringe a bit, but we always seem up to the task.
