Some of the more pleasant rituals of civilization center around coffee or tea. It's a chance to take a break from the day's activities and shares thoughts with friends or steal a moment to sit back and reflect in your own world.
At right, my husband, Wally, and I are taking just such a break with our good friends Chris and Anita at The Old Cataract Hotel on the Nile, where Agatha Christie wrote Murder On The Nile. Anita and I took a tour of the hotel while Wally and Chris sat and watched the sunset. They told us they sat there for forty-five blissful minutes and never spoke a word.

What a lovely way to while away an afternoon. Tea with a friend, or solo, in pastel toned china, delicate petit fours, apple strudel cookies, truffles, chocolate mints, and an assortment of teas. We serve it up on a bamboo and wood sage green tray. How civilized.
